Behind the Science of Coffee Husk Biomass

What Makes Coffee Husk a Serious Fuel Source

Coffee husk isn't a novelty biomass — it's a genuinely high-performing one. When properly processed and densified, it delivers heating performance that stands up to, and in some conditions exceeds, traditional firewood.

The Numbers Behind the Burn

  • High calorific output. COFFUEL pellets are engineered to deliver up to double the heating performance of standard firewood or coal, weight for weight.
  • Efficient burn ratio. Around 400g of COFFUEL can deliver comparable heat output to roughly 1kg of traditional wood logs.
  • Sustained flame. A 100g unit can burn steadily for 1–2 hours, depending on your stove, fire pit, or oven's ventilation conditions.
  • Minimal residue. COFFUEL leaves behind a fraction of the ash of traditional wood — and the resulting ash can be returned to soil or garden beds where appropriate.

Clean by Design

Because the husk is fully dried and densified before pressing, combustion is more complete and more efficient than loosely stacked, variably-moist firewood. That means less visible smoke, less odour, and less unburned residue left behind — a meaningfully different experience for anyone who's dealt with a smoky wood fire in a garden or shared outdoor space.

Why This Matters Beyond the Fire Pit

When organic coffee husk is discarded and left to decompose without appropriate management, it can contribute to methane emissions and other environmental impacts. COFFUEL gives that agricultural residue a productive second use: turning a material that would otherwise be treated as waste into a usable source of biomass fuel.

The Bottom Line

Real performance, from a material most of the industry still treats as rubbish. That's the science behind every bag.
